Dallas-based sports social network adding crowdfunding capability – Dallas Business Journal

Sports technology veteran Kirk Berridge is preparing to expand his sports-driven social media app into a crowdfunding platform.

Berridge, who spent more than 20 years in Silicon Valley, has experience working in sponsorship, media and advertising sales for big-name sports teams such as the San Francisco 49ers and San Jose Sharks. In 2004, he founded SportsAdMarketplace, an online ad network of 109 professional and college team websites. Berridge and his team sold banner and video ad campaigns for the sites.

In 2007, he flexed his entrepreneurial muscles again, founding Fan Media Network. The mobile app allows sports fans to post and follow coverage of their favorite professional and college football, basketball, hockey, baseball and soccer teams.

Berridge, who moved to Dallas in 2013, started the company with his own money and last year raised an additional $400,000 round of seed funding though friends and colleagues. All of his investors, who include a former boss and former coworkers, know him personally, Berridge says.

Expansion capital through a pipeline of sponsors and a $5 million to $10 million Series A funding round will be the company‚Äôs focus in the next few months…
